Using 6.1 speakers

I just bought expensive speakers for my inspiron 6000. I can not get the rear speakers to work. Do I need to buy a special cable. Do I need to buy a new sound card. Or is there a way to configure my sound card to get the speakers to work. The speakers are logitech z5450 speakers.

you will need to get a dedicated soundcard like the soundblaster audigy pcmcia or the soundblaster extigy that is an usb device.

Thank your for the help, I bought the 5.1 usb soundblaster sound card. I plugged it in. I still can't get my back speakers to work. Can you help me figure out what I need to change on my computer. I changed the bolume setting to say that it should be using 5.1 speakers. Please help me out.
