are you just unplugging the stick or are you closing it out first?  You need to do the safely remove step before you unplug the stick.

I have been guilty of not closing out first. I have stopped plugging in any sticks to see if that was the problem. Would that leave my computer PC corrupted in any way. If so what could I do? Restore to a point before I was naughty. Restore points are set up every day by my virus scanner.

It is important to always close out a usb drive as window sees it just like any other harddrive and is constantly polling it and other disk housekeeping chores. When you select to close it it will finish up its house keeping chores and disconnect the drive.

The result of not doing this is improperly closed files, boot record and the like, so the next time it is inserted it must try to reconstruct the mbr and files .

On the Desktop, went through the correct procedure to remove a stick. I also did a Registry clean. I really can't claim how the problem was fixed, but what I outlined might have done the trick.
