Using notebook with a dead battery

Inspiron 9300. Will it damage the notebook if I run it on AC power when the battery is dead (battery status light flashes orange continuously)?   I have ordered a new battery but there is a two week delivery delay; not very good for a bog-standard item!

Thanks in advance.

You can run a laptop without the battery installed.  If the battery error condition is flashing, it may indicate not just a dead battery but a battery with an internal problem.  Might be safer to take it out.

Thanks for advice. Have just removed battery and am up and running on AC power but without the flashing warning light.

Is your screen still bright? I'm running on just AC with no battery pack in and I can't alter the contrast - it's really dim and hard to read.

Yes, I can alter screen brightness using usual Fn with up or down arrow keys.
