using PRO1X port replicator with D630

Hi,

I have a PRO1X port replicator that works with my D600 laptop.  I was wondering if the PRO1X will work with a new D630 laptop?  I am planning on buying a new D630 and wanted to know if I needed to get a new port replicator.

Thanks

I am getting power adaptor warning messages.  The power adaptor that I have been using was from the D600, but the power adaptor from the D630 does not have enough juice to power the port replicator.  Can anyone help?

Thank you

...you are correct that there is a difference between the power supply(PS) for the Latitude D630 laptop and the one for the PRO1X port replicator.

Both the D630 and PRO1X power supplies put out 19.5 volts so in this respect they are interchangeable.
However, the D630 PS is rated at 65 watts max and the PS for the PRO1X has a max output of 90 watts.

Your laptop, when undocked, will only draw 65W max (and probably less than that under normal conditions).
The PRO1X however seems to require more than 65 watts or at least the Power On Self Test (POST) is setup to think this is the case.

If you try to power the PRO1X with the D630 65W PS, you will get an error immediately after the BIOS splash screen and POST which says:

"Your power adapter does not supply enough power to run the attached docking station.  Either undock or insert an appropriate adapter.

Strike the F1 key to power off"

The bottom line is, assuming all other parameters are correct, you can use a 90W power supply to run the undocked D630 laptop or the PRO1X port replicator but you CANNOT use a 65 watt power supply to run the PRO1X.

...I hope that helps clarify all this.
