go to the dell website--> customer service--> downloads and drivers. put in the necessary info (Series-- Inspiron, Model-- 6000) go down to video drivers and download the integrated video drivers, not teh ati drivers. good luck and post back with any questions!!! :-)
I bought a Dell Inspiron 6000, and play Guild Wars too.
First off the link for video drivers located here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R95162&SystemID=INS_PNT_6000&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3526&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=2&formatcnt=1&fileid=123318, isn't the video driver for the integrated video card in the Inspiron 6000.
On closer inspection of the description of those video drivers, they seem to be for a Intel Alviso Video Driver, which isn't what our Inspiron comes with.
If you upgrade using this driver, when you trade with another person, or at some point during game play your laptop will lock up, giving a blue screen indicating a problem with one of the DLL files that the video driver installed and force you to turn off your Inspiron 6000, recycling the power to regain function of it.
Windows will then register this fault as a major issue and ask if you want to send the information to Microsoft or not. That choice is obviouisly yours to make.
When I tried taking this issue to Dell's tech support chat, let's just say it wasn't the best outcome.
I sought my own resolution.
For the Mobile Intel® 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family, use the following link to download updated video drivers:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=1862&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition〈=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go%21
This file is directly from Intel, which isn't a 'third party' driver, but direct from the source. However, I have downloaded and installed this driver into my Inspiron, and have since ran Guild Wars with no problems, no blue screens or lock ups.
You may wish to configure the video options inside of Guild Wars for better performance, depending on the hardware configuration of your system.
If you have any further questions, I'll try to help you as much as I can. You will get a quicker response from me using my email, at celtic_troll@hotmail.com. I'll be happy to do what I can to help you.
I have a Latitude D610 with a Mobile Intel media accelerator, as above, 128 Mb RAM, and I'm having the same problem with Guild Wars. However, when I try to install the Intel driver, the setup utility tells me:
'This driver cannot be installed on this computer. Please contact the computer's manufacturer for further information. Setup will exit.'
It seems odd that it doesn't say
why it can't be installed.
Well, for reference, the solution was to upgrade my D610's bios revision from A03 to A04. I was then able to install the latest driver with no difficulty.
