Virtual Memory too low
For the past few days, I've been getting this little pop-up thing that says my computer's virtual memory is too low. So I googled the problem and I upped the amount of memory and I've been playing with the levels for the past few days. But yesterday I read that messing with the levels too much can cause a hard drive crash, which would be my computer's second hard drive crash in 6 months!!! My computer is definatly starting to slow down significantly. What should I do?

Hi,
It would be best for you to post your computer specs so that someone or I can make a conclusion towards your problem.

Hi,
From what i have seen on notebook forums you are ok. since you have more Ram your hard drive wont be accessed as much. If you had a small amount of ram your hard drive would be accessed all the time and would eventually crash.

Hi,
If your system has to much memory it wont harm the hard drive. If your have a small amount of memory the hard drive is going to be accessed more often rather than having more ram and your hard drive wont be accessed as much.
From what i hear on notebook forums you are ok.

Oops Sorry.
I have a Dell Insprion E 1505 Laptop. I bought it in August 2006. It runs Windows XP.
I recently suffered a hard drive crash and put in a 160GB SATA Hard drive I believe.
I don't recall what the original paging memory was set at, but I currently have the intial set at 4000MB and the Maximum set at 12000MB.

Hi,
Random Access memory (RAM) is a component that stores data of the software that you are currently running.
What i meant about the accessing of the hard drive is that the computer accesses the information that is stored on the hard drive in order to launch a program. With a hard drive that runs at 7200rpm's allows more data to be sent out for faster performance on your system.

Thank you very much for your help!! I think I am a little confused though...I have plenty of room in my hard drive. I couldn't fill a 160GB hard drive in a million years so I don't mind if some of it is used for memory. But what does the virtual memory do? What do you mean by accessing the hard drive?
