I suggest that you uninstall Dell's quickset and then reinstall it.  It may fix the issue.

This has been moved to its own thread to give it more visability.  The original thread has an accepted answer and will get less visiblility.

Thank you for your suggestions and leading me to Dell's quickset. I found where one can able or disable the volume screen image. All is working well now.

I tried to download Quickset and selected "Run" but got a message that my E6400 does not support Quickset.  If I am to uninstall a version of Quickset that is already on my computer where will I find it?

My apology.
You have a Latitude E6400.  It doesn't use Quickset.  It uses System Manager.

Dell ControlPoint System Manager

  • The System Manager replaces Dell Quickset Function.
  • It is the main part of Dell´s Controlpoint application bundle, it contains the functionality previously included in the Dell QuickSet application

Bay Wolf,

Sorry to bother again, but I've been all through ControlPoint but I can't find anything that controls the Volume Indicator Bar.  Since the problem only appeard in the last 60 days I think I inadvertantly hit a combination of keys that toggled the bar to an "always on" status.  Now I can't find the toggle to turn it off.  In ControlPoint I located the section that permits me to establish customer hot keys but the Volume Bar was not among the functions that could be controlled.  I would appreciate specifics on where in ControlPoint I can turn the bar off.

Thanks

The E series doesn't use Quickset anymore.  What you are looking for is the Dell Feature Enhancement Pack.  DL that and give it a shot.
