Vostro 1500 Freezing Randomly

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but whatever. I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop, its been running smoothly since I got it in March, but the past week its been freezing at random points for no reason. I've reinstalled XP (its also frozen twice during install) and it still freezes. Sometimes when it boots up it takes it forever to load on the Dell startup screen. I'm not sure if its BIOS or what thats messed up but something is causing it.

Just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks.

can you run the dell diagnostic test, and see what it reports

sort of sounds like a hardware problem.

if it freezes during the windows xp install,,, it allmost tells ya its hardware,,,but you might re-flash the bios and see if that helps.

I'm having the same problem with my vostro 1500, except its on windows vista, could it be a malfunction in that system? (I have another friend who has similar problems with his too). Mine at first used to bring the blue screen and crash, then started freezing randomly and now it wont even boot the operating system...

I ran the diagnostics and it said everything was fine, though I'm running the extensive one now, so I'll post back and see what that says.

Yeah so I got XP to install and I also upgraded my BIOS to A06 and it still freezes. Ran the full diagnostics and it was fine, so what could be the problem? Anyone?

possibly be a hard drive problem...find out who makes your hard drive, and go to the manufactuers web site, and download their diagnostic software, and run a test on your hard drive.
