Vostro 1520 Charging problem
Hi!
I have a vostro 1520, and got some problem with battery. The Original one wasn,t charging more than 1%, so I bought a new one (laptop is not more on warranty), a 9 cell, but looks it's rated at 11.x volts instead of 14.x volts for the 6 cell one.
Now with the 9cell, I've been able to charge until 40%, and now can't go higher. I've tried to use the battery, at 23% I tried to recharge it again, but can't get to 24%..
By the way, when i open the laptop, the battery charging light illuminate, then turn off after 5 seconds. It does the same thing when I unplug the power cable then replug it.
What can I do to get this battery working?
Thanks
Christ

Is this a Dell battery, or a third-party battery?

It's a brand new Dell bought from Dell.

The next thing to try is a new Dell (or borrow one) AC adapter. If it won't charge the battery either, you've a mainboard in need of repair or replacement.

Yeah, I'll ask how much this is, cause I tried to get an Universal AC Adapter, but there was none that fit :S.
Buying a battery and AC adapter, and see that there is a problem inside the laptop, it doesn't worth repairing. With the low cost of the Del Inspiron or studio.
Well, I'll try to borrow a AC Adapter.
Thanks

For an indication how much energy is stored in the battery - insert a WAT meter between AC adapter and AC mains socket. Turn the laptop off and let it charge for a while till the charge indicator light says it's full. The WAT reading should at least somewhere near the WATT reading of the laptop battery. (Assuming the laptop battery was empty before)
If a different AC adapter does not charge the laptop battery you might want to consider an external standalone laptop battery charger.

I found the problem using another AC adapter.. it will not go in at the maximu, but it's charging.. I checked the connector, and I saw that the stock AC adapter has no pin in... the Pin is INSIDe the laptop connector and I can't get out of there :(
I tried using a magnet (I took off the hard drive to be sure ;) ), but no success.
Any idea ?
Thanks
