Vostro 3500 Touchpad Problems

Hello, I'm someone here can help me.  My touchpad is driving me crazy.  When I try to scroll or highlight something or even grab a the edge of a window to change its size, my mouse skips around, grabs the wrong thing or only highlights part of what I try grab.  And the thing that drives me the craziest is the cursor skips to other spots on the page when I'm using Word or Outlook AND even this forum note.

I've done some research on the problem and the solution I've encounted the most for touchpad problems is to reload the driver.  Sounds simple enough, but... when I download the driver from the Dell Support Page for the Vostro 3500 and then run the file, R253442.exe I get a warning that my current driver is newer.  The driver on the support page is dated 3-16-10 version 14.0.19.0 and the version on my laptop is dated 1-7-10 and version is 15.0.2.0.  Can someone explain that to me?  What version should I be running?

Thank you!!!

Hi Jvprk,

Welcome to the Community. I suggest you uninstall the touchpad drivers and then reinstall by running the new file again. To uninstall, click on start, right click on computer, click on properties, click on device manager, click on the symbol next to pointing devices, right click on Synaptics touchpad and click on uninstall, confirm it, once its removed, install the new driver, or click on the below link to download.

Hope this helps.

Thank you

Royan

Royan,

Does this driver support both the touchpad as well the media keys?  I had a problem where the media keys on my Vostro 3500 weren't working (but the touchpad was working fine with the multitouch gestures) and a support forum posting said I should update my Synaptics touchpad drivers.  I did and now the media keys work, but I've lost multi-touch gestures on the touchpad.  Can you verify that the driver you posted supports BOTH the touchpad multi-touch AND the media keys?

Thank you.
