Warning: Battery cannot be identified, #3
I've had my laptop just over 2 years its an dell XPS, I've never had any problems before however a few days ago when plugged into the mains it had reached 99% charge and the battery icon started flashing orange as if the battery charge was low but I found out it was nearly fully charged when I clicked on the icon on my home screen it told me it was plugged in but not charging so I checked the battery health and it said all was fine. I tried to restart it and on starting it beeped loudly and gave me the message Warning:Battery cannot be identified. So checked battery health again and still no problems reported so unplugged it from the mains and let the battery run down when it reached 95% it stopped flashing and went back to normal I plugged it into the mains again and as soon as it reached 99% it did started flashing again.
Really stuck I've looked online but found no problems with my model of pc. I've tried what others have suggested by updating the BIOS and unplugging everything and holding down the power button then reinserting the battery but its still doing the same thing.
Has anyone got any ideas? Rely on my laptop at uni so its really important I get it sorted soon.
Thanks

Hi ,nearly bought an xps but did not fancy the sealed in mac type caseing.
I am guessing you have windows 7,have you tried getting one of those desktop progs(the free ones)sure i have seen a few that give battery info, maybe a second opinion might say for sure if your battery is shot.
My old inspiron 6400 had a battery go at 3 years but all that time i had it powered up so now when i have it at home and powered up i remove the battery and make sure i dont accidently catch the power lead, have had an hp run like this for over a year with no probs, but obviously this trick is down to the person who's pc it is,but as i said i dont know if your xps has a sealed in battery, sorry i cannot be more specific but to me batteries are a real pain.

Hi Dela C,
Please share the system model. Since you have already checked the Battery health meter and no problems were found with the battery, try connecting an alternate AC adapter and see if that makes a difference. Also check and let me know if the charging port is loose on your laptop.
Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

I've not seen any of the programs you've spoken about, where can I find them?
The thing is my laptop spends at least 80% of the time plugged straight into the mains so the battery itself gets very little use and its only 2 years old, I would have thought its a bit soon for the battery to go, I'll be very disappointed as its a 9 cell battery and designed to last longer.
Yeah the battery is sealed and from what I can see theres nothing obstructing the connection

Sorry when I had windows 7 I could access these desktop progs, you probably had the clock etc on your desktop you can get more and many options ,when I was using 7 I put on many, there should be an option in the pc somewhere ,if you have the clock it should have an option to get to what you have, from there it should have a link to getting more.
You say you spend 80% on power well mine was virtually 99% on mains and my battery died in 3 years, shame you cannot remove it but as I said it was the reason I did not buy an xps as I like to remove it when not needed plus access to ram chips hdd etc. Saw a vid on you tube on removing the base cover, the guy said it was very difficult with lots of very delicate clips to tease off.

Hi ,
The system model is XPS L501X, I've checked the charging port and it doesnt seem loose at all, and i checked the AC adapter by unplugging the battery and just plugging in the AC adapter and it worked fine, I'll try using another adapter and I'll reply when its fully charged.
Thanks
