Did you re-install the system lately? If so, did you download and install these drivers?
Dell suggests you
log on to www.support.dell.com for updated version of drivers and other downloads
Please download the drivers from these links (in this order)
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software Chipset or SMBus driver Processor Driver (if applicable) Video Audio (sound) Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse) Modem Network Card
Also check for other updates for your wireless LAN card.
I did not reinstall the system. So I did not download and install any drivers. It's hard to try to go to any website and do anything because that message keeps popping up almost instantly after I click on Don't Send. Plus I just hooked it up for wireless this afternoon and now it won't connect. Gotta get ready for my birthday dinner. Will check back later for instructions. Thanks.
Lets do it this way. I see there is an urgent update for you wireless LAN card. Drivers are located
here. Also download and install
this for your network. If you want Intel ProSet wireless, you can download it from
Drivers and downloads. This is a good place to get all the updated drivers for your computer.
I give up. I think too many things are wrong with my daughter's laptop and it's going to have to go in to the Geek Squad. Only problem is I heard that they erase programs/data and don't put it back on!?!?
I got the laptop to run through the checkdisk program. It did say it fixed one thing. I downloaded the 2 driver updates you told me to. I restarted the computer. I still get the same message.
I cannot open McAfee. My daughter tells me NOW that the live updates expired a year ago but she forgot to tell me, so her computer probably has a virus. I went to 2 different free virus scan sites, and when I click on Scan Now, nothing happens and I get an error message on the bottom bar. So, I cannot even run a scan to see if there is a virus. :(
Since McAfee is expired, remove it. Download Avast Home Edition, register it's FREE. You can do a full system scan with it. Since she thinks it has a virus, after you download and install these programs I suggest, restart the computer in the safe mode, press F8 on startup.

Not sure this will work but it's worth a try. Go to control panel, add/remove programs.
Intel ProSet wireless, click on it. Choose repair. Restart your computer when done. What do you get?
If it still doesn't work try,
pressing the Windows Key and the R key at the same time. This will bring up the run command.
type cmd and hit enter.
type chkdsk /r (spae between the k and /) hit enter.
Answer with a y.
Restart your computer. This will look at your computer and repair anything that's wrong.
Let me know.
I forgot, Happy Birthday!

I think this is a hopeless case.

Since McAfee is expired, remove it. Download Avast Home Edition, register it's FREE. You can do a full system scan with it. Since she thinks it has a virus, after you download and install these programs I suggest, restart the computer in the safe mode, press F8 on startup.
C W Shredder
Spybot Search & Destroy
AVG Anti-Spyware, Download the FREE version.
Run these programs, in the safe mode, and remove everything they find.
After you remove these the spyware, then restart the computer and then see what you have.
Let me know how you make out.
