window 8.1 re-installation

The Following DELL laptop's Window 8 operation and Recovery partations have been formatted. Licence key is now required for re-installation of Window 8.

The Laptop particulars are;

DELL : Inspiron 15 3542 (Early 2014)

China

If you did not prepare a set of recovery media when  you received the system, you will need to contact Dell Support to have one sent (under warranty) or purchase one (if the warranty has expired).

This system should have shipped with Windows 8.1 and not Windows 8 as its an Early 2014 model.

Follow the instructions here, read the notes carefully about selecting the correct Edition when you cannot boot into your OEM Edition:

You may need to invoke a bit of trial and error. This will work only if it isn't a "with Bing" Edition.

Once Windows 8.1 is installed ensure you prepare for Windows 10:

If you do have a "with Bing" Edition then you should install Windows 10 Insider Preview and take the upgrade path from the Windows 10 Insider Preview to Windows 10 RTM when its released. Microsoft's representative has Gabriel Abu has made it known that Microsoft will not cut off Windows 10 Insiders from reaching Windows 10 RTM. See here for details:
