Windows Firewall,,cannot adjust settings in Windows Firewall????????
Am using W7 with 2 networked PC’s DESKTOP XPS8000 & LAPTOP 14Z
File sharing has previously worked okay but now I'm encountering a problem
When trying to share files from my LAPTOP to my DESKTOP
When I open my Network and Sharing Center on my LAPTOP and click on the Homegroup icon
The DESKTOP & LAPTOP icons appear
When I click on the DESKTOP icon I get a window with the message
"\\DESKTOP is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network server"
I thought it might be related to the Windows firewall settings on the DESKTOP PC and when I tried to open the Windows firewall I got an error message 0x80070724 indicating I cannot adjust the settings in Windows Firewall.
Thinking I may have a virus or a rootkit problem I ran several antivirus programs as well as Malawarebytes, and found no serious problems.
How do I fix this so I can access all the files on my DESKTOP PC???

Networking and Sharing is always a little tedious to make sure is always working sometimes, but it sounds to me like your permissions need to be changed up. The following steps may be of assistance.
Keep in mind that changing some permissions can lead to their own set of concerns, so please post back if you have any questions or concerns before doing anything that you are unsure of.
1. From Control Panel choose Administrative Tools (will need to be out of category viewing and in icon viewing)> Computer Management> Storage> Disk Management
2. Right click on the drive in question
3. Choose Properties and click the Security tab
4. Click the Everyone User Group and notice that the Permissions for Administrators boxes are not checked.
5. Click on the Allow> Full Control box and then the Apply button at the bottom.
6. You can check the other users and groups in this window and allow them full use also.
7. Click OK and exit the Security window.
8. You now should be allowed access to the drive via sharing on the Workgroup network.
Please, let me know if this works better for you. :)

Thank you for your response..I tried your solution with no success...the problem is that the Windows firewall on the Desktop is apparently not working....
When I try to access it in Network & Sharing Center I get error window reading
\\DESKTOP is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network server
I thought it might be related to the Windows firewall settings on the DESKTOP PC and when I tried to open the Windows firewall I got an error message
0x80070724 indicating I cannot adjust the settings in Windows Firewall.
Thinking I may have a virus or a rootkit problem I ran several antivirus programs as well as Malawarebytes, and found no serious problem
What do you think??
