Windows Mobility Center Button
I just purchased a Windows 8 Inspiron 15R (5520). I found the Windows Mobility Center button on the right side of the laptop above the keyboard does not open the Windows Mobility Center. When I press the button, the backlight on the button does come on and dims for a few seconds until it goes off. That is all that happens. When I open Control Panel, Windows Mobility Center, it works perfectly. What needs to be done to enable the Windows Mobility Center button on my Inspiron 15R laptop?
Thanks,

Hi Senile Old Man,
I will recommend you to uninstall and re install 'Quickset' application:
You can also update the BIOS in case the issue still persists:
Note: Please save any unsaved data as your system will restart automatically after updating the BIOS. Disconnect all the external peripherals like printer, camera, scanner, external hard drive, flash drive etc. Also, the battery should be charged 10% or above.
Keep me updated. Please reply for any further questions.

Hi Vikram M,
I found out that the Quickset button works only for the session the laptop is running after I install the Quickset utility. When I turn off the laptop and turn it back on, the Quickset button does not work. I then reinstall Quickset and the button is again functional until I turn it off again. I also upgraded the BIOS but Quickset still only works for the time the laptop is running once I reinstall Quickset.

Hi Senile Old Man,
Please uninstall quickset from Programs and Features, restart the system and install the latest version of quickset: http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3518/6180.APP_5F00_Quickset_5F00_W7W8_5F00_A05_5F00_NY82X_2D00_Setup_5F00_ZPE.zip
Restart the system after installing the Quickset.
Please reply with the results.

Hi Vikram M,
I uninstalled the previous version you sent me and attempted to install the version in this email string.
I received an error message once I downloaded it and started the installation that says "This is not a supported system".
Apparently this version you sent is not designed to run on Windows 8.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Vikram M,
I did as you recommended, changing to Windows 7 in Compatibility mode (even though I am running Windows 8) and ran as Administrator. I still received the same error message "This is not a supported system".
I appreciate you working with me to resolve this.

Hi Vikram M,
I have resolved the problem. As I mentioned, the Quickset button only works when the laptop is running the current session (after I go to Programs & Features and click on Quickset64 and then "Repair". When I turn it off and back on, the Quickset button does not work. I decided to look in Startup and found that Quickset was "Disabled". I "Enabled" Quickset in Startup and now each time I restart the computer the Quickset button functions.
Thanks for all of your help.
