Windows Update Bluetooth problem

I ran Windows Update on my Dell Inspiron 600m, WIN XP Pro SP2 computer this morning. It found an update entitled "IVT Corporation... Dell Bluetooth Device". I installed the update, only to find that Bluetooth no longer worked. When I would try to enable Bluetooth from the blue and red icon in the tray, I would get a message that it was off and I should hit Fn F2 to turn it on. The same message kept coming up no matter how many times I toggled Fn F2 from off to on. I then "Restored" my system to a previous state and Bluetooth works fine. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Many thanks.

I don't know the answer to your question. My recommendation would be to use WIN System Restore and selectively run the other updates again.

I sure hope someone at Dell reads this thread and contacts Microsoft to have the update pulled!! Putting a defective update on the Windows Update schedule is the ultimate in irresponsibility!

Same thing happened to me with yesterday's update.
I have not restored yet, was wondering if reinstalling the Dell Bluetooth software might fix.
There were 8 updates I did along with the bluetooth.

Same thing happened to me and I did a system restore, which I'm always wary about doing, to fix it. Very disappointing that this would show up under the Windows Vista automatic update software!

For those of us that are out of warranty, it seems virtually impossible to contact Dell, even when there is an obvious problem that Dell technical support should know about. If anyone here is still under warranty, would you please try to notify Dell about this thread for all of us.

I would hope that there are Dell support persons who read these forums, but so far, no one has stepped forward to acknowledge this thread and take some action. If they only knew the bad publicity and customer ill will created by making it impossible to contact technical support!

All,

You should not install driver updates from anywhere except the Dell website.  Windows update does not restrict itself to Dell updates.  I wish it did.

Rollie,

All of us forum readers are now enlightened and wiser regarding Microsoft Windows Update problems. Nevertheless, when this automatic scan says that your specific Dell computer needs a Bluetooth software update, many owners will accept and install the program, with destructive consequences.

For this reason, I again request that Dell technical support use the power of your Dell corporate name to contact Microsoft, advise them of this serious problem, and ask them to fix or remove the update from their scanning procedure. This cannot be accomplished by a lowly Dell user! I would think that both Dell and Microsoft would benefit from correcting an obvious problem.
