I have a Inspiron 15 Laptop with Vista. It is about 1 1/2 year old. Can I still update to Windows 7 free.

Thank you for the info. How do I upgrade to Windows 7. Can I do it through the Dell web site?

There are no more free upgrades - that time period ended long ago.

You can buy Windows 7 from any of a host of vendors - even directly from Microsoft itself.
