Windows XP Install Help needed

Hi,

My Dell Latitude CPXJ650gt crashed it says windows can not start because the following file is missing or corrupt SYSTEM\DRIVERS\NTFS.SYS

When I tried to reinstall XP I get the following error

file NTKRNLMP.EXE could not be loaded the error code is 7

Then I tried again and I got file SETUPDD.SYS could not be loaded error code is 4

I downloaded a boot disk for xp and still had the same problem.

Can anyone please help me.

Thanks Fon...

Sounds like the HDD is dead or dying.

I removed one of the Ram Chips and all was ok. I guess I had a bad Ram chip

here is the link I found on the subject.

It may be the RAM slot itself. The CPxJ is semi-notorious for developing them

You are right I tried to put in the new memory and it would not take it. when I removed the other memory my laptop would not boot with the new memory. I am going to take my memory back and get on 256 chip.   Thanks Fon..

Not for sure, as PC133 is 2 steps up and it also needs to be low density. I have had one that did - a Centron-but you will be taking a chance unless you get some guarantee it will work from the seller and a return option if it doesn't

Go to either http://crucial.com or http://memoryup.com . Either one of those guaranty the memory they sell you will work in your notebook. Yes it may, or it may not, be a little more money BUT if for some ODD reason it doesn't work they will take it back for no cost to you. I have bought memory from both of these two places and never ever had any problems with it.
