Windows XP Pro. SP2 Reinstall
Hi All,
I just received my Dell Latitude D810 Notebook with a Windows XP Pro. SP2 CD. I'd like to perform a clean reinstall the OS. While I know how to do this properly, what I am concerned about is the following:
P.S.: I have searched the Dell Forums, and they do not offer a reinstall guide for the D810 model.
Are there any guides or steps for what software/drivers to install AFTER Windows XP Pro. SP2 has been installed? For example, what would one have to do to rebuild a system similar to what it was when I first received it from Dell? Is there a list of drivers, certain steps/order, certain software that one must get and install? (Video, Audio, Wireless, Hard Disk, etc....) If so which one's?
Thanks for all your help.
Regards,
Giovanni

Giovanni,
Welcome to the forum.
A search for that brought this:
There is no on-line software reinstall documentation available for the above Dell System,
Operating System, and Component Category combination using the Software Reinstall Guide.
Please check the original documentation and user's manuals that accompanied your Dell computer. {LINK} <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
For the D800, found this:
Knowledge Base
...installation of Windows XP, perform the following...the Dell Latitude D800 reinstall guide for Windows XP, refer to Dell Knowledge...
RG1081862 "How Do I Install the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating System...Dell™ Latitude™ D800?" Additional...{also a LINK}
You can take it from there:)

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I thought there would have been a "Windows Update" type system where you would have to download and install only 1 software, and it in turn would detect and download all needed software (video, sound, network, etc...) drivers. Guess I'll have to download the drivers and software individually and install them slowly.

Giovanni

Your system should have been delivered with a "System Restore" Partition that you are supposed to use a "One Time"
option to create (burn) your own CD Restore disk set. When you said "...with a Windows XP Pro. SP2 CD..."
did that mean you received an XPproCD or just a SP2 CD or both? Be sure you have a copy of your OS.
I would hope that the above method would start you out with a more "Up-To-Date" Restore Set than the CD Set
that they used to ship with new systems.
That being said, I would still want to at least confirm that those Drivers and utilities were the most current.
By all means follow the order recommended by Dell, but that should be Chipsets first, then Notebook System Software.
This is a link to your Dell Drivers and Utilities site
You will notice that WinXP is not on that (or any other) site, also check it against your system to see if there are other files that
are not available for download, so you can copy and save them, if you would want them later.
The Knowledge Base I put up for the D800 should do until Dell gets a D810 version for you.

A D810 should have that second partition.
If not, call Dell and they will ship you a CD set, that's normally $10-15 or so but in your case
it should be free, including shipping.
I am only repeating what others have said, as my D800 (shipped 10 months ago) still had the CD set
and no OS Restore partition.
Best of luck with your project.
