wireless adapter not detected

I've got an Inspiron 600m and have been having a sporadic problem with my Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG internal adapter - ocassionally after startup, the system does not recognize the presenceof the adapter (when I open my Intel software, I see a grey wireless symbol with a red X and "no supported adapters in the system" ).  This has been happening periodically since June, and usually I can solve the problem by shutting down the computer and restarting once or twice (or a few times).  Today that seems to no longer work - I've probably restarted about 20 times so far, sometimes right away, sometimes after several minutes of being shut down.  I've tried reseating the PCI card and removing and reinstalling all the software.  Any other ideas?  I've had trouble with the ethernet adapter as well, so right now I'm updating by burning updates onto cd's.  Unfortunatly, my warranty expired in March.

Just asking a few questions to see if you have checked some options and things.
Are you sure you are allowing the Intel Pro wireless 2200 to configure the card and not windows? Make sure that you don't have windows selected to configure the card.
You have a firewall other than windows firewall and if so have you looked to make sure the Intel Pro is approved?
Also, if the ethernet adapter is enabled then disable it. Make sure the wireless connection is on top of the list of options.
I have seen these above things cause problems. If the firewall doesn't approve this early in the boot process sometimes it will not load.

My ethernet adapter isn't recognized right now either, so it certainly isn't enabled.  I didn't change any settings between when the adapter worked on Friday and when it wasn't detected on Saturday, so I don't think it's the firewall.  I had the same secutiry setup from when I bought the computer in February 2005 until September 2006, when the school I work at changed the network registration, but I've had the wireless working with those settings since September.  Thanks for you suggestions :)

Ok, but things do change even when something has been working before. Obviously something has changed so good luck!
