Hello,

I have a 5150 not and xps. However, I periodically experience this same issue. From my experience you will have to check the always show box. Then hit apply and reboot. Then go to the start menus poperties and where it say hide inactive icons (or something like this) click the customize option. Then locate the battery icon and select always show. This usually keeps it on my task bar for a few weeks.

My only question is why does it disappear? I originally guessed it was caused by windows cleaning up what it believed where unsed icons so I turned feature this off.
However, it is only a minor problem so I have learned to deal with it.
