XPS lag problems & Prescott Processor throttling
I started this new thread as the old one was locked by Dell moderators. The main topic of discussion is any lag problems you are having with your iXPS or i9100. The main cause of this is a throttling Prescott processor. The old thread is here:
I will edit this post when I get a chance and provide the troubleshooting steps you can take to determine if your processor is throttling...

Towards the end of the benchmark the system was throttling down to 2900mHz. I have the rightmark cpu utility running at all times to monitor the cpu throttling.
I'll keep an eye on the throttle and see if it gets any lower. If it does I'll be asking for a replacement!!!!!
I wish we could place a link to this thread from the old one.

When Dell sent me a Northwood processor I put it in myself and everything worked perfectly. I am guessing that the technician messed something up when they had your laptop apart.
If you are getting an iXPS replaced then they will either give you a replacemnt iXPS they have in stock or an iXPS gen2 if they do not have an equivalent iXPS in stock. Chances are that you will get a gen2.

I got an email confirmation from Dell today saying that the system exchange has been authorized and they will be sending the new XPS (Pentium M). According to them, it will take approx. 2 to 3 weeks to arrive.
Finally, I am happy, and it is worth going through the pain. Thanks for all your contribution in this forum.

I have been having this problem now for over 6 months. My computer just heats up and all my games lag, heck even IE and Firefox will take a long time to open. I just havent had time to call Dell and sit through the call.
I am wondering if its a design issue. Because the video card gets extremly hot but there is no fan by it. Lst night i put my XPS down for a sec and it shut off by itself because it got too hot. I cant even launch the FN+Z+R when booting up. I will be calling tonight to see if i can resolve it with them.
Anyone has the extension for the XPS support?

Though the video card does create a lot of heat, and shares a common fan with the CPU, I was having throttling issues even in apps like Visual Studio .NET when compiling projects, and my GPU wasn't hot at all.
BTW, you do Fn-Z-R when in Windows, not on boot.

I am glad I finally found this thread because this problem has been causing me a lot of headaches. The fans are 80% of the time blasting full speed and the system keeps on slowing down. If the computer goes into standby and then is started up again, even if it is cold, the fans are at 100% and the system is so slow that it takes sometimes several minutes to open up internet explorer. I have tried everything, from complete reinstall of the entire computer to keeping it dust free, and nothing have helped. Thanks to this forum I know now that it wasn't only me an I hope this issue can be resolved. I mean, if you pay $2000+ for a system it better work, especially if it is less than a year old.
Thanks all for your input, it has really helped.
