Have you tried  useing  another driver for that video card ?  Uninstall the old one, and find a better one to replace it....Also, are you using a spyware program to clean out all the spyware on your system that will slow things down as well ?  During game play, is your anti virus software running ?  If its Nortons anti virus, that is a resource hog, and should be disabled during game play, unless you are on the internet.  Turn off windows xp eye candy and if you are running a screen saver or wallpaper, turn those off as well and see if anything I have suggested works....

I do leave Mcafee running i do have Kazza Plus and i have installed my driver and i did turn off Xp eye candy, it helped marginally. Regardless i still should run faster than that. Oh yeah and this problem is noth confined to Sims2 i also have this problem on Rome:TW, Stronghold 2 and a few other games.

Don't know if its true or not, but I have read sometime ago that Kazza have messed up other systems.  Why don't you uninstall it, and see if that's the problem...Sorry, I cannot think of anything else, but a clean reformat, and reinstall of windows, leaving most everything else off until you see if the games work better, than install one program at a time.  Make sure if you do reformat and reinstall windows, you remember to re-install the chipset driver.  ( Very important )....Good luck

I am having the exact same problem with MOHAA and BF1942. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with a Dell and this is my eleventh. I am hoping online support will get back to me pretty quick with a fix action. Perhaps it is a bad Card? Mine is a ATI Radeon 9700 and I have 1GB RAM and nothing else running during my gaming time.

Thanks All,

Perry

Yes i might try and get in touch with them. Also I've hear that laptops naturally ,b/c thier parts are closer, run slower than Desktops could it just be a natural slowness that is particular to Laptops. But yes i will try Dell Tech support.

I have wasted a lot of time online and on the phone with Dell Tech Support and from reading other similar threads and finally reaching XPS Support, it appears as if we have a bad Video Card. The big problem is that this card is integrated into the Mother Board, so they come get your laptop, send it to a Repair Depot and then send it back repaired. The entire Motherboard has to be replaced. Doh!! Call XPS Support @ 800-822-8965 and speak to them to insure yours is the same issue, but they sound Identical. If you see five default monitors in your advanced setup, this is the key indicator of a bad board.

Thanks,

Perry

The XPS does not have an integrated graphics card.  I have a 9100 which is the same as the XPS and I have changed my graphics card.  Seems Dell has told you a fib.

You might want to try a couple of things first if you have the 9700 videocard make sure you are running the latest bios from the dell download page then. Go here download these drivers  www.omegadrivers.net then go here http://www.drivercleaner.net/  and use this driver cleaner tool before installing the omega drivers follow the instructions they are fairly easy it is important to follow the directions to the t and run the driver cleaner twice in safe mode.It will get rid of excess left behind when uninstalling the drivers through control panel then add and remove programs.Note when you do uninstall the old drivers through add and remove you will have 3 ati related programs make sure all 3 are uninstalled then use the driver cleaner tool then install the omega drivers.

Make sure you aren't having heat issues that are causing your processor to throttle down which will cause similar symptoms and lag like drivers problems.Check to make sure you don't have fan failures to do this reboot and when the dell logo displays press Fn+Z+R at the same time which will bring up your thermal control page check to make sure you don't have any fan failures also take caned air while your laptop is off and blast the vents in the back of your laptop this is good practice to do once a week with all laptops.

If you do find out your video card is bad i would recommend upgrading to the 9800 it is a drastic improvement over the 9700.If you find it is heat related send me a message with your e-mail and i will send you some pictures on the modifications i have made on my XPS. It runs much cooler. I drilled tiny holes in my Ram cover if you noticed most all newer laptops come with vented Ram covers now i also took a targus cooling pad which raises the back of my laptop and puts it on a slight angle and i measured and cut the spaces out of the cooler pad where the fan vents and Ram cover sits to improve air flow it work's very well. Good Luck
