XPS microphone problems..
I had no idea I had an integrated mic--so thanks for that info, guys.
The problem is, though...I purchased a headset (headphones/mic combo) yesterday and haven't been able to get it to work. Yes, everything is plugged into the right places, all the volume controls are set ok...it works on someone else's system, so it's not faulty....I was convinced that I was getting it to work by plugging the mic into the speaker jack and then recording, but that wasn't too helpful being that I had to the unplug the mic so I could hear what I said. Thinking back on it, I bet it was just the integrated mic picking up on me talking! Ha.
I tried switching the registry entry (DisableMicFromPlayback) and that didn't help...any other ideas why the mic just won't work?
Thanks for any advice....

A good tool for diagnosing is Windows Sound Recorder (Programs/Accessories/Entertainment...).
Open the recorder and click on the Edit menu then Audio Properties. Click on the volume button under 'Sound Recording' and make sure that 'mic' is selected as the recording source and that the level slider is up. Close the dialog boxes. Click the red record button in Sound Recorder. Speak into the mic. If the green line moves then the mic is working.
