Jason,

No eq. The workaround is to use whatever is built into your apps; eg Windows Media Player has eq; some programs host dsp pluggins, etc.

Thanks Jim.   I was afraid of that.

I know most of the media players have EQ's built in.....but this is now my main game machine and was looing for a way to pump up the in game audio.  It's a shame that they don't even allow the use of the basic "Treble" and "Bass" sliders.

But hey, I can accept this.  Now I can sleep easy knowing that this is how it's going to be.

Thanks again.

I finally broke down and got an Audigy2 ZS pcmcia to get decent sound out of my XPS2.  It has a nice feature that lets you feed the output into the onboard sound so you can still use your laptops speakers, or use the jacks on the audigy2 for headphones/external speakers.

Yah, I've been kicking around that idea.

While the video (gaming) performance has been top notch, I am surprised to see them put such little effort into audio-end of this machine.

It almost seems like the audio was just an after thought.....like Dell was starting to ship the new XPS and a janitor in the back of the room raised his hand and said "hey, you guys forgot the sound card."  So one of the marketing guys says "OK......well, hurry up and jam something in there that makes sound!!"

Not realizing that some people will use this as a desktop compter with full monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc.

*sigh*

Back to BF2

I agree completely.  For a flagship gaming system to ship with a business class audio device (its the same audio as my D610 at work has) is really a shame.

It's like the one letdown in an otherwise fantastic machine.
