What resolution are you running ?

I've tried everything from 640 x 480, to 1280 x 1024 (1280 x 1024 is the max the monitor will support) and in Analog mode all of the resolutions show up just fine... in Digital mode, I get a signal all through bootup, I.E. when it checks the memory, etc etc.. but as soon as the "starting windows 2000" screen disappears, it goes black and nothing else comes on the screen. If I boot into safe mode, it works.. but it doesn't allow me to change the monitor driver while in safe mode, and I cant get any resolution past 800 x 600, 16 colors.

Were you able to figure out the problem? Iam having the same problem with my Visiontek GF3 Ti500 and a new Dell 1800FP LCD. I can see the boot sequence but nothing after XP Pro is loaded. Analog mode works fine.I am running nVidia 29.42 WHQL driver. TIA for any help.

Yeah... Dell seems to have forgotten about me It is still several months later and I still have not figured out the problem. I have tried reinstalling windows as well, to no avail... can ANYONE at Dell help us?!!!!

I see this thread is MONTHS old, with no solutions.
I have a Precision 530 with Radeon VE.
Works fine on analog outputs.
Trying to connect to a new ViewSonic VP201mb LCD Monitor
Using the digital IF, the screen blanks where it is supposed to display the "Click Her To Logon" screen.

It is definitely a driver. All I can suggest is to try different versions of them and see if any works. Try http://www.guru3d.com/files/. They have quite a few to try.

Showing image at boot and not in Windows points to the driver issue. Can you boot into safe or VGA mode?

yes I can get in under safe mode, i have tried several different drivers and all of them are doing the same thing, so that is why i was thinking it was something with the actual monitor rather than with the video card or the drivers... it almost defeats the purpose of having a flat panel monitor when you can't use the digital display..

I'm not from Dell and I'm also not as huge as you are, but here is something to try.

First, connect both DVI (digital) and D-sub (analog) cables from your video card to the monitor. Boot to OS and download latest nVidia driver for your card from ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/40.41/40.41_winxp.exe (it's for XP and 2000).
Uninstall existing driver (don't just run new installer), reboot, and then install new driver (beware, this driver is not digitally signed, so you will have to click Continue anyways when warning dialog appears). When you now go to the advanced display properties (I'm assuming you know how to do that), there is an option called Device selection in the funky sliding tab. You should be able to select Digital display (or try detect diplays).

Did you try pressing third button from the right on the monitor front panel?

yes, nothing does anything (yes i realize its broken english),... none of the buttons do anything to get the signal working through the DVI connection

I've tried all of that. The instructions with the video card and also the instructions with the monitor both say to not plug both of them in at the same time.. anyway I tried doing that, and it doesn't matter, it will only work on whichever display it detects first, and if it detects analog, it works just fine.. if it detects digital, it will show a display all the way up until it actually would get into windows.. and yeah, i guess i am pretty huge. haha.

A Dell E-mail support person asked if my monitor is properly recognized by the system -- It wasn't. It was just identified as a plug & play monitor. He seems to think that might be part of the problem. Is your monitor properly id'd?

ATi seem to think I need to buy a DVI-I dual tmds cable to get this monitor working in dvi mode....

is this subject dead now?  did anyone get it sorted?

FWIW, I'm having the exact same problem as b(ar?)hopper and 3rdsout. XP Home/Dimension 4300/ATI AIW Radeon 7500/1720FP.

Using DVI, I see everything up to the login screen, then the LCD appears to lose signal (the power LED goes from green to amber). Use a DVI->VGA dongle on the ATI card, and the blue analog cable to the LCD, and everything's OK except for a brief time when the XP logo is displayed and I get an 'Out of Range' message from the LCD.

Must have tried at least 30 different settings, still no luck.

Is anyone having any kind of DVI success with the Dell FPs?

Keith
