1703 Power Save keeps on
I believe Jesse may have the answer to this one - based on a few other messages I have seen in the context.
I have a Dimenion 8400 with an ATI Radeon 8500 256MB graphics card. Unfortunately everytime I start up the computer in the morning it comes up with a message indicating that the monitor is in power save mode and so can not display any image.
If I start up a few times and fiddle around with settings, it ends up coming on eventually, though I am not quite sure what I have done to make this happen. It never works with the DVI cable and connection active though.
I'm not sure what I can do about this.
Anybody have an answer?

spm01,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Try turning on the cpu first and then the monitor. If the monitor is in power save mode and its says to activate using the pc then, press in on the power button on the cpu to see if that will get the monitor to display.

Jesse
I have tried what you suggested and it doesn't seem to work. Here are the other steps that I have tried so far:
Switching the system from digital to analogue and using the analogue cable only
Using the DVI cable and digital settings only
Moving the mouse and typing on the keyboard simultaneously while starting up
Unloading the driver for the 1703 and using the standard plug and play monitor drivers from microsoft
Reloading the drivers for the 1703 and seeing if that helps
None of these has made it any easier to get the monitor to give me an image. The monitor seems to work fine with other machines, though I don't have a second monitor to try with this machine.
It was suggested that I might need a file called EDID, but I can't find that on your support website either.
Anything else that I could do?
Thanks

spm01,
Do you have an Nvidia video card installed in your computer?

Ah well. Thanks for trying Jesse. It would appear that the problem is with the graphics card itself so we are going to try replacing that and see what happens.
Appreciate the help nonetheless.

Jesse or Someone at Dell:
I believe that I have this LCD 1703 "Stuck in Power Save" problem. I have an NVIDIA 5200 128MB gfx card. Could you please email me the "DVI fix" SW, some directions on how to use it, and any detailed explaination of what this issue is. Very frustrating!
