1703FP Black Screen with DVI Input
I have a 4600i with nVidia Geforce FX5200 and 1703FP monitor. Initially I used the DVI connections and everything worked fine but after a couple of weeks I started up one morning and got a black screen. Pushing panel button gave me the message "Digital Input in Powersave Mode". The monitor Self Test was OK for either digital or analogue inputs. The monitor works in analogue mode.
I 've tried all the usual diagnostics, a new DVI cable and another PC with an identical Geforce FX5200 but the DVI input still doesn't work. I can only conclude there's a fault with the DVI input on the monitor.
Anyone know the answer?
Dell UK Technical Support apparently do not!

Thanks for your response from my previous posting. As you know, I had a similar problem with my 1703FP on my 4600i system.
I finally corrected mine by trying some of the steps suggested by "Dell-Mel" in his FAQ for Flat Panel Monitors posting.
First, I got the DVI cable to work by totally disconnecting the cable from the CPU and the monitor. I then powered down the entire system and UNPLUGGED the monitor for a few seconds. I reconnected the DVI cable and powered up the system. Initially, I got the same dark screen with the "floating" Analog Input Self Test Feature box, but when I pressed the "Minus" button on the front of the monitor, the screen came on.
I checked the driver mode by looking in the Control Panel and going to the System screen and looking in Hardware, then going to the Advanced tab. When I clicked on "monitor", I found that had the wrong driver installed, so I inserted the CD that came with the system labeled "Dell 1703FP Color Monitor User Documentation" and reloaded the driver. This seemed to correct the problem. After reloading the driver, the new driver appeared shown as "1703FP Display (digital)", and it seems to be working fine so far.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for your response - I tried the steps you suggested - but I still get a black screen on DVI input
I'll try updating the video card driver next but if that doesn't work then can it be anything but a fault with the monitor DVI input?
What really frustrates me is that Dell UK Technical Support are just not helping me at all.
