There definately is a technical fault with the monitor, we had a similar problem with a television at home where by the screen kept shrinking and it got to the stage where there was no picture at all. If it's still under warranty I would contact Dell and report the problem, or if it's out of warranty you could consult your local monitor repair store.
I have the same problem with my M992. The edges on both sides are about two inches in now.Does Dell monitor this forum ? If so, have they come up with a solution or answer ? I know this discusiion was a long time ago but I don't see any response from Dell.

New one to me. Reboot into safemode. Does the picture fill the screen? Have you all removed and reinstalled your video card driver?
