1901FP display orientation

The 1901FP swivels 90 degrees from landscape to portrait mode. How do I then change the screen display orientation from landscape to portrait? I called tech support and spent almost 2 hours on the phone with them, and they had no idea how to do it. I also searched the Dell knowledge base and forums, but only see references to PDA's displays. I did download the latest driver from the Dell website, as instructed by the owner's manual. The onscreen display menu does allow you to rotate the OSD menu itself, but not the display behind it. Am I missing something? Thank you in advance.

What model is your video card. If Nvidia, use the NVrotate tab on the display properties. If ATI 9800, use the ATI rotate driver on the Dell support site. Reply back if you have questions. Once ATI installed you can quickly orient the view using the ATI icon in the RH taskbar, just right click on it and select rotation.

Thank you, Tom. I had the Nvidia GeForce 4 MX series card preinstalled, and it did not have the NVrotate tab on the display properties. I had the newest driver. (Odd that after 2 hours with tech support, nobody knew that.) Anyway, today I went to CompUSA and purchased a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra for $170 and spent $40 more to have them install it after I brought my tower in. Sad that my brand new Dell 8250, with all its bells and whistles, had to be taken in and upgraded at my expense ($210) as soon as I set it up. Thank you, anyway, for the reply.

Actually I think there is a flash BIOS update you can do on the old card to get the NVrotate to work. But enjoy the new one!

I have an ATI 9700pro, where can I find the ATI rotate drivers for the 1901FP? Looks like the ATI Catalyst 3.6 drivers do not have this feature.

Here is a pivot software I haven't used, but have heard of that will accomplish this.

 http://personalcomputing.portrait.com/us/products/pp_overview.html

Samsung bundles this software with their display (Dell Doesn't)

Edit: be sure to note there is a free trialware download on the page. Try it for 30 days for free!

Thanks, Tom.

I have the Invidia 5200.

Is there a simple way to get to the NV rotate (maybe by shortcut?) without having to go through the control panel and down the menu tree?

It just isn't easy to get to, although the feature is really useful.

Thanks,

Art

I am unsure if Nvidia places a control panel icon in the RH taskbar. Anyway, see if you can find it here in the Users manual if you haven't looked in there yet.

http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/video/p57010/en/usage.htm

ATI places an icon there, and you are only 2 clicks away to select rotation degrees.

I got the Nvidia 5200, and I do have an icon on the taskbar. I right click and select rotation and I can choose 90, 180, etc.

Thanks.  I do not have an item on the taskbar for Nvidea.

I do not see how to set one up in the user guide either.

Can anyone help me?  I really have to get use to Windows XP so I apologize for the questions.

Download and install the latest drivers from Nvidia (45.23).  If the Nvidia icon does not appear on your task bar after a reboot, right click the desktop and choose properties.  Click the settings tab and then the advanced button.  Choose the Nvidia tab and find the section that turns on desktop utilities (or something like that).  I writing this from memory.

Omigod, I was wrong.  I did have an NVIDEA rotate option - I just noticed in somebody's message that it would be accessible through the icon on my task bar, and that worked!!!!! Thanks!

Hi, Tom

I bought an NVIDIA card (Asylum GEForce 5200 Ultra 128MB AGP) from Dell at the same time as I bought my 1901FP display and I bought that card expressly because I was told it would provide the portrait capability.  But I don't see any NVrotate tab anywhere.  And when I looked to download different drivers from Dell, the FX 5200 128MB card was not listed, just 64 and 256MB cards.  And my conversations with Dell have led nowhere!  But I have just learned  (unfortunately at 1 a.m.) about a different phone number (that shuts down at 12p.m.) for Advanced Technical Support for new products. In case it will help someone esle, it's 1/800-822-8965.  That's tomorrow's project.  At least the second tech support rep KNEW that he didn't know how to help me.

I'd be grateful for any help anyone could provide.

Gail
