1905 - light leak?

I have just received my 1905 FP.  It did gave me a feeling of fogginess initially.  After reading the posts on this forum, I corrected the problem.  I am guessing the fogginess is caused by some sort of light leak.  The most obvious evidence is that when I have a mostly black screensaver (such as windows xp logo screen saver), the screen looks a little lighted.  Is it what they call light leak?  I am sure there is no software that can control that.  The birghtness on the monitor is set to 48.  Should I get an exchange?

Thanks.

Hi tonkaexplorer

I have 1905FP monitor and I had no problems with it. There is a forum call www.hardforum.com. There are people who have bought Dell monitors like 2001FP & 2005FPW that talk abought light leakage go there to find out. I think the fogginess it not the cause of light leakage.

After reading some of the posts at hardforumand some posts on this forum,  I realized that the problem I see on my monitor is not really leakage.  In these posts, people describe leakage as light source coming from a cornor or side of the panel.  In my case, the whole panel looks very even.  However, the black is just a little bit bright.  I have seen some other dell laptops and LCDs.  The black screen on this 1905 is just brighter than what I expected.

Don't know what video card you have, perhaps you can adjust the Gamma?

I have a 6800 nVidia in a 8400 and can go to the nVidia control panel and adjust it there.

Good luck..

My video card is GForce FX 5200.  Not a very good one, I know.  BTW, I am using DVI.

A lot of people are saying that the color on 1905FP look washed out.  I had the same experience.  Many posts mentioned adjusting through video card.  The brightness adjustment on the monitor doesn't do too much.  You can hardly tell the difference between 0 and 100.  Any changes in video card can make a big difference.  Initially, I followed some posts and adjusted through my video card.  After playing with it for a while I realized that this is not the solution.  Maybe it is just my video card, but if I tune brightness down only a little bit, some images start to deteriorate, specially in the dark parts of the image.  Some dark parts that were used to be smooth now look like there are some brown stains and dots on them.

I had a Dell 1702FP that I bought two years ago.  No problem there at all.  Never needed adjustment.

You could very well have a defective 1905.

On the first one I had there was significant leakage in the corners of the screen. It looked horrible. The replacement looked much, much better.

The colors are vibrant and very clear. There is no "washout" at all. I am very pleased with this monitor.

Good luck, I hope you get it resolved.
