1905FP ghosting problems
Hi,
my new 1905FP arrived yesterday, and I proudly hooked it up to my GeForce 6800GT card via DVI and marvelled at the quality of the desktop picture.
I then launched World of Warcraft - fabulous, until I moved the mouse. Woah. Blur city. I checked the resolution was 1280x1024 but again, everything is fine until I move the mouse, then the picture just loses all definition and motion blurs.
HalfLife 2. Staggeringly beautiful, again until I move the mouse. Then everything just goes terribly blurry, with blacks especially leaving trails all over the screen. Instant headache after 5mins of play. This game has loads of details and contrast, but even so, it looks like an LCD reponse time of 200ms rather than 20ms.
Now I know this is only 20ms and not 16ms response time, but I never expected it to be this awful. How can the extra 4ms suddenly make it great? Under DVI you get little control, but I've pulled the brightness down to 0 which is about all I can do. I've tried to force the GeForce to do 60Hz at 1280x1024 but the OSD always seems to report 75Hz as the refresh rate. Could that be the issue?
How can I force 60Hz under DVI? I've gone to desktop properties and set 1280x1024 @ 60Hz but the OSD still reports it being 75Hz.
Is this just how it is with the 1905FP? If so I want my money back as it is horrible.
Any advice gratefully received,
Thanks,
Nick

Hello,
I want to buy the Dell 1905 FP TFT cause it was tested very good in a german pc-magazin.
Now I read about your problems with the "ghosting". Have you solved these problems? Has the ghosting gone? Was your TFT damaged?
Thnx a lot!

I went through two of the 1905FP monitors and both of them had severe ghosting issues. I would strongly recommend a different choice. The 2001FP I use at work seems to be vasty superior.
Although I was disappointed with Dell for advertising this monitor as having reduced ghosting, I would like to offer Kudos to Dell support for helping me sort everything out quickly.

What game are you getting ghosting from? I have run Nascar Racing 2002, 2003 and the new EA Sports Nascar 2005 demo, Flight Simulator 2004, Combat Flight Simulator , Combat Flight Simulator 2 and 3 with no ghosting at all.
Running 1280x1024@60hz native resolution.
I do have a very pronounced "backlight leakage" on the lower left of the screen. I have just sent tech support an e-mail and will probably let them replace it (just received the monitor 1/24/04). There is very, very slight leakage in the other corners but you really have to look close on a total black background to notice.

I just tried Medal of Honor, Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam still not noticing any ghosting. Running the latest nVidia drivers.
Other than the backlight leakage as noted above I am very pleased with this monitor.

I received the replacement 1905FP and it has no leakage at all. The first one I had was defective not only the backlight leakage but the display looked sorta washed out. The new one looks much better, the colors especially look better.
I guess I am lucky in that the ghosting is not bad at all for me.

I got delivery of this monitor - but wasnt able to test it until yesterday - and I was shocked it was so bad.
I'm trying to play CounterStrike on it and the blackness streaks across the screen making me nauseous.
Ive used Dell LCD monitors before and this is the worse of any monitor I've ever seen.
Even scrolling down this forum causes streaks to run up the screen.
A Dell friend says its one of two things
1. Incorrect Hz is selected
2. Faulty Monitor.
My Hz is set at Optimum 60Hz - so its either faulty or there is a reason they were selling these off cheap.
I've tried to capture what it looks like on video - but its much worse in real life - check out the black wheels on the cars.
