1905FP USB connection

I connected my new 1905 FP monitor to a working USB2 outlet on my Dimension with the supplied cable . The outlets on the monitor do not work.

hiwim,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Click the link below to view the online manual for this monitor. It has troubleshooting information on how to resolve the issue with the usb ports on the monitor.

Everytime I boot, the devices attached to the monitor's hub don't respond (among which the keyboard that I need to log in :smileywink:)

When bootup has finished I remove the cable from the computer and then reinsert it and voila: it works again.

It's a bit of a hassle, but at the time it'll have to do since my computer has only two USB ports.
Can't wait til my new computer arrives with 10 USB ports :smileyhappy:

Thanks, but I went previously through all the steps.
I connect a USB2 device directly to the PC, works fine, I plug the USB2 monitor cable into the same PC outlet and connect the same device into the USB outlet on the monitor- "unrecongnized device" message.
Now, after reconnecting all, booting up I get a blue screen- something wrong, start in safe mode etc. Same screen. I disconnect the USB2 cable to the monitor, computer starts fine (and monitor) Help!!

Forgot to mention to try plugging your device into the 3 remaining USB inputs on your monitor. Try them all. Also, try the other USB port on your computer. You need to try every combination.

In addition to the USB cable for your peripheral, there is another USB cable that came with the monitor that should be connected from the monitor to one of your PC USB ports. If this works, the other 3 USB inputs on the monitor should work.

hiwim

I have the same monitor and think that I can answer your problem. Even though your monitor is connected to your computer via  a USB2 port, the output from the 1905FP USB hub is only USB 1.1. If your device is dependent on a USB2 connection I would recommend plugging it directly into your computer to see if this cures it as USB1.1 will not be compatible with USB2 requirement. PLease let me know if this solves it.

Regards

Richard

As much as I like the display on the 1905PF, I think Dell goofed in regards to the tuted USB outlets. Please look at the threat, and I believe that a. the manual should have stated that the outlets are only USB 1.1 compatible (if Richard is correct), and b. they should be USB2 compatible. HErbert

THanks, stevez2, I am copying my response to Richard :Thanks, RIchard- I connected a printer following your suggestion, but got a "printer not connected" message- I had expected a "USB2 device connected to USB1 device". But your solution might explain the solution offered by stevez2, who suggests connecting from the PC USB2 outlet to one of the four 1905FP outlets, giving me three outlets. I could not test that since I did not get a second USB cable with the monitor, I suspect Stevez2 is talking about one with 2 flat ends. All I have is a flat-square end cable. But if the 4 1905 outlets are directly connected with each other, that would give me 3 USB2 outlets if I go from the PC USB2 outlet to one of the 4 1905 outlets. Herbert
