1905FP USB Problems, #2

I have a problem with the built in USB ports on my 1905FP. What happens is the devices plugged into any of the ports on the monitor seem to flicker on and off. It is like they lose power for a fraction of a second and then come back online. Sometimes they recover correctly and sometimes they dont.

This was a problem when I would plug my keyboard into the monitor as it would eventually stop working and I would have to unplug it for a while and plug it back in to make it work. The same behavior is observed with my Powermate Knob.

My phone and ipod are both able to charge just fine using the USB ports but they seem to also suffer connection loss when connected to the monitor that doesnt exist when they are plugged directly into the computer.

Yes, I have tried multiple rear ports.

Let me try the front USB ports just to be sure (since I know that they are on a different root hub).

Having you tried moving the USB cable from your monitor to another port on your computer?

Alright, I tried with other USB ports and the problem still appears to be occuring.

Then it would seem that that particular portion of your monitor is defective.

So my options then become what?

Well... either live with it or have Dell replace the monitor.

Also try going into Device Manager and have a look at what's going on while you plug and unplug the devices on the monitor. At any rate, when you connect a USB device, the plug and play messages appear when the hardware is detected by Windows (presuming you are running Windows). I wonder if the USB cable supplied with the monitor may be faulty? If you could get hold of another USB-to-USB cable and plug that into the monitor and PC, that could eliminate the cable as being the problem. Then it's as Craig suggested, the monitor USB hub might be faulty.

New to forum and have a new Dells system with 1905FP monitor. Wanted to use the downstream USB ports on left side of monitor. I must have missed it in set up, but do I need to connect USB on rear of monitor to computer? Will this supply both USB connections.
