1905fp...brightness doesn't work

I have a new 1905fp with a non functioning brightness adjustment. The display is too dim. After 1 hour and 45 minutes of torture with Dell on the phone, a replacement was sent, which has the same problem. I use XP, all updates, radeon 9600, dvi connector.

I can access the osd. go to Brightness, access the brightness adjustment. This gives me a blue highlighted Brightness, with scale on the right going from - to +. The scale is gray, with a numerical reading of 0. I then press menu again and the scale turns blue. At this point, if I press - or +, the value stays at 0 and there is no change on the screen. Also, whle holding down the + or -, the 0 number will flicker about once per second.

Before I return this for a refund, I'm hoping someone can tell me what I'm missing. Thanks.

I think I have a similar problem, except with the FPW 2405. I posted it on this thread:

Can't select some menu options on the FPW 2405

but no one replied to me yet :-(

While I don't frequent DellTalk anymore... I've answered a similar question in an older thread ("click here").

There's also another older discussion on this topic, "click here". If you enter "1905FP brightness" or "1905FP" in the search box at the bottom... there are more threads.

Rod

I'm about to return this thing for a refund. I don't want to spend 2 hours trying go communicate with tech support. Any other ideas?

With the newer FP displays when you use DVI connection you cannot manually adjust your brightness, you have to do it via the video card drivers. Here's how to do it:

If you right click you desktop, then select properties.
Click the setting tab.
click the "advanced" button.
You should have a tab now that says the name of your video card. Click that one.
(For example, mine says nVidia 7800GT.)
Look for a tab or button that says "color correction" or "Brightness".
Adjust 'till your heart's content.

Cheers.

No. With DVI the instructions clearly indicate that brightness is available but not contrast.

I can adjust mine from the buttons and the OSD. My nVidia settings also let me change it, like you say, but that shouldn't prevent the OSD from functioning. Mine doesn't. Sounds like the original poster has a defective monitor.

Make that 2 defective monitors. Dell replaced the first one and the replacement was the same. Sent back for refund. good riddance.
