1:D-SUB SELF TEST FEATURE CHECK displayed when DVI Cable is installed

I have a new Dell XPS with a 2001FP flat screen, 128MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 Pro Graphics Card with TV out and DVI. When I install the White DVI cable, I get a floating box 1:D-SUB SELF TEST FEATURE CHECK on the screen. When I reconnect the blue cable, the monitor works fine.

Is there a setting I need to change?

I had the same exact problem. The Flat screen monitor was NOT initialized at the factory. Call tech support and they will walk you through this. It took me many phone calls to finally get someone to help me on this. Let me know if this helped you. I am sure this is the reason you are having this problem.

You need to sit down the computer, turn off the monitor then:

A) detach the blue cable

B) attach the white cable

C) turn ON the monitor

D) press the leftmost button on the front of the monitor until it says DVI-D (NOT-D-SUB, D-SUB is the BLUE cable, DVI-D is the white cable)

E) turn on your PC.

If it doesn't work after that, THEN call Dell for tech support. You just didn't set the monitor to use the DVI port is all.

err. that was SHUT down the computer. Although, I did teach my computer to sit. Wonder if I can teach it to play dead?
