2001 fp resolution, rendering problem

Question

Hi, I am a new LCD user after being convinced to buy a 2001fp, but am having some (possibly newb) problems with my LCD. After checking the forums and confirming using some LCD testing software, I determined I have 0 dead pixels, but a bunch of backlight problems which are only noticeable when playing games that are very dark (ie - doom3) and DVDs (with the large black bars) I have already asked for a replacement, and should hopefully be getting a replacement, but here is my other real concern/problem. When I am using a non-high res such as 640x480 or 800x600 for games such as Doom3, Counterstrike, or even the original quake2, I get a weird sluggishness/choppiness that I think may  be ghosting. It looks exactly the same as if I had a really bad videocard and it couldnt render the frames fast enough, but I *know* the videocard is up to snuff. For example, running quake2 @ 1600x1200 runs more or less perfect, but running at 800x600 or lower and it looks like I'm using a 16MB card. I even tried forcing the refresh to 75hz at those resolutions to no avail. My main concern is for Counterstrike where, I *want* my resolution to be 800x600, but when the monitor switches to 800x600 mode the monitor (not the videocard) seems to sputter rendering everything. I changed counterstrike to run in windowed mode (desktop @ 1600x1200) and just zoomed via the OSD, and the performance is much improved comparitively. Any help or does the 2001fp not intended for these low resolutions or is there something I can do about it? Dave My systems is a stock Dell 4550, P4 2.53 Ti4200 1GB ram

The image quality will suffer if you are not running 1200 by 1600 at 60hz refresh on that monitor. You may have to play Counterstrike at 800 by 600 to get a fast enough frame rate, to get a good display at that resolution, a CRT monitor would be best. Have you run that game 800 by 600 on a crt to compare?

yea, my old 19' CRT was able to do 120hz @ 800x600 but I had read good things about the 2001fp online and in magazines for gaming and ended up purchasing it... I guess you can say I am very disappointed in its performance.

I think you're just seeing a limitation of ALL LCDs... none of them look very good at anything except their native resolution.
