I don't know why you're having troubles with the boot process.. (are you running Nvidia's most recent video drivers?)
but as far as the picture being below your expectations, I'm guessing that you're running the monitor via it analog (d-sub) input ?
I've heard of others seeing poor results when using that input from their video card, only to see great improvements when switching to the Digital DVI input...
I'm not sure if your Geforce 2 has a DVI output (i'm guessing that no, it doesn't).. But if it does, try switching to that and see if the picture quality improves.
I did just download the latest driver and so far so good. I am nervious about rebooting since that's were the problems were. The poor image quality was due to color management setttings I had set specifically for my old CRT. The quality is quite good now. The next trick is seeing if I can still boot into Windows.
