2001FP Goes Black Screen every once a while

I just purchased a 2001FP not long ago, and it's starting to have some weird problem. While I am using my computer, every once a while, the screen turn black (totally black) for one second or so, then it will go back to normal. It becomes very annoying now. It happens all the times, but the problem is espeically worse when I am using Mozilla FireFox (problem persists even when I am not using FireFox and quit it, just less frequent.)

I have an AOpen FX 5200 128Mb video card, connecting thru DVI to the 2001FP.

Check this thread: "M782 Monitor Sometimes Blinks Off Then Back On"

Sure hope someone at Dell finds an answer..it appears to be affecting many different CRT models.

Thank you very much. I sort of figure out that it must be power saving related 'cause it was fine and my power management feature of the computer never had a chance to kick in before -- it was always on and always "busy" doing its work. But last night I forgot to shut down and the blinking problem kicked in.

I disabled power management and restarted. For the whole afternoon, the problem is gone. It's a bit early to call it "fixed", but as far as I can tell, I no longer see the problem. So, it matches what the other user said in the thread you mentioned.

I will keep my eye on the system and post my finding here.

Here is something else to try. I set mine like the following yesterday afternoon and it has not blinked out since...but it has gone one or two days recently without blinking, so I may not have discovered anything.

I am using Windows 98 SE, therefor..the following notes and links may not be the same on 2000 or XP.

Go to Control Panel, click open 'Display'.
Click the settings tab.
Click the advanced button.
Click the monitor tab.

You should see three items there with checks in a box for each item:
Monitor is energy star compliant
Automatically detect plug & play monitors
[  ] Reset display on suspend/resume.

If there is a check in the box for the last one (for suspend/resume), take it out and click apply.

This may help and it may not..it has here (so far).

My next effort if this has not solved the problem will be to search the BIOS for sleep modes etc. and turn that off.
