2001FP Problem

Hi,

I wondered if anybody could help me with the following problem.

I have 2 monitors, one 2001FP and one P991, which are recently connected to my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card. (The 2001FP on the DVI-D connector and the P991 on the D-sub connector)

When I boot my Dimension 8100 (or restart it), I have visuals on both screens until the Windows XP Pro logon screen comes. Then the 2001FP screen remains black and on the P991 (secondary screen) I get visual. If I turn the 2001FP off and on again I do get visual and I see the logon screen. I find this pretty irritating and I would like to get rid of this problem.

Can anybody please help me? Thanks in advance!

Sander.

Hello,

I have got an Dell 2001 FP and have the same problem as mentioned in this topic. I have contacted the Dell customer service in the Netherlands who advised me to flash my Asus V 9950 (Geforce 5900) videocard. Because there is no other bios then the one i already have this isn't an option.

Tonight i have tried the fix which is downloadable from this forum thread. I have followed the instructions but still have the same problem. Is there an different fix for my videocard?

Hope to solve this problem shortly because it's driving my up the wall :(

the solution is simply to use the VGA cable and input on your monitor instead of DVI.

But thats not the reason i have chosen this screen... Dell knows there is an problem with this screen and will not resolve it... how strange is that :(

How hard can it be to find an fix for all users when the problem lies in the EDID...

well you have the option to:

-keep the screen and use the VGA cable and be totally happy since you can't see the difference anyway - except that now it works

or

-return the screen and buy a different brand

Connecting via VGA is a workaround, not a solution, for those who bought the monitor for that purpose as well as those running multiple monitors off their machine. I'm in the former camp. And I can certainly tell the difference between a VGA connection and DVI on my monitor (fonts are significantly crisper running via DVI).

If the monitor is advertized to support DVI, then it should. Simple. Despite assurances that this issue was resolved last year, obviously there are ongoing problems.

As for myself, my 1 yr warranty is just about up. Time to trade in my monitor after all.

I too have this problem with my NEW 2001FP, I am using the ATI All in Wonder 9600 and in order for me to use it in VGA I have to use an adapter because my video card only has a DVI. My Monitor will turn off, or not turn on at times and it requires a re-boot, sometimes multiple times to get the monitor back. If I turn the monitor off and leave the PC on the monitor will not come back to life. I have turned all power saving or stand-by modes off. HELP this is very frustrating and was not a problem until I began using this monitor. I too have all the most current drivers for the monitor and video card.

Does the DVI_recover.zip file work with my video card?

A dell moderator has not responded to this thread since June, could we get some support here?

Thanks for any help!

If you spent the money on a 20" monitor and you can't tell the difference between DVI and VGA, you have bigger problems than broken displays.

I'm having a different problem with mine. Sometimes when I wake my system back up from power-save mode the display from DVI is out of wack. The far left of the image is on the right side, and the normally blue background is now pink. As soon as I press the "change inputs" button (read: before the input actually changes) the display is fixed. Anyone else have this issue?

I have a pc with ATI Radeon 9800 pro.

I just purchased the 2001FP and it seems I cannot get it to work.

Sometimes it boots up and I get a blank screen, yet the power light is green and I can hear my pc goign to desktop but cannot see.

Please help me.

Cycle your power off and on again. Also, check for my earlier post in this thread for the file Dell provided to help fix sync issues. It doesn't help 100% for 100% of people, but it at least allowed me to view my POST screen when I first turn on the PC. I still have to cycle my power sometimes though to have it show.

The way I resolved my problem wasnt easy but it worked.

I just did a FRESH INSTALL.

Install WinXP and everythign from scratch.  No problems.  Everything is perfect.
All other advice and tips did NOT work.

Thanks for trying to help.

Hope this helps.

Dell support is kinda pathetic.  I'm a bit disappointed but I have learned to rely on myself and fellow users when it comes to hardware and software support.  I know Dell's customer service (on phone and online) are oblivious and do not provide REAL solutions.  This is the 3rd time I had an issue that they could not provide a solution.  Oh well.  I guess when you get a good deal on a product, you pay in some way.  This time, as always, its the lack of support ;)

Same problem here.  Had it with a OEM NVIDIA 6800GT PCIe and a BFG OC 6800GT PCIe.

Will a moderator please send me the fix for the 2001FP?

Considering the number of people that have this problem you would think a real fix for 100% of the people would be released by Dell.  I know that until this is fixed I won't be buying any more Dell hardware nor recomending it...

I think I am suffering from the same problem. I am running a Dell 2001FP with an eVGA 6800 Ultra. I do get a picture at 1600x1200 using a DVI connection, but occasionally the screen will go black for a few seconds and then it will return to normal.

I have tried several different drivers from nVidia (6x.xx - 76.xx) and I have also flashed my video card to the lastest BIOS.

Could a moderator please send the EDID configuration utility. I do not have a floppy drive so is it possible to get a bootable CD image?

Didn't fix my problem, you can find it easy enough on the web though just google it.

On my 4th RMA'd monitor and still have the problem here.  Sad thing is the LCD and most of the hardware are from BenQ, yet BenQ's version of the same monitor works perfect...just costs more.
