2001fp problems
Alright, I jsut purchased a brand new 2001fp monitor.
It seems to work very well at the native resolution (1600x1200) and has no dead pixels so far.
however, in reading this anandtech preview of the monitor (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=1918&p=7), I was led to beleive that I could zoom out on signals smaller than 1600x1200 and display them as a smaller panel in my screen. the actual quote from anandtech is:
On a cheerier note, this LCD let's you “zoom” in or out on a signal. Want to run a 1024x768 game without any pixel interpolation? Simply zoom out on the signal and you will have the 1024x768 box in the middle of the screen. Counter Strike addicts rejoice!
However, I cannot seem to 'zoom out' with this monitor. Is this not actually possible with this monitor, and anandtech is wrong, or am i not doing something properly.
also, my monitor emits a VERY high-pitched buzzing tone whenever it goes into standby mode. The sound is almost the same thing that happens when you turn on a crt television: an electical tone that is almost to high for the human ear to register.
I would be very appreciative of any response from a knowlegeable dell representative, since I have tried dell's online-chat, email, and phone support without ever getting a response to my specific problems, and am generally extremely frustrated with the quality of dell's customer service...
Edit:
Ok, I disscovered that instead of 'zooming' i have to use the 'scaling' feature to display 1280x1024 signals in true 1280x1024. I didn't figure this out at first because the scaling option is buried under the image settings menu, which isn't normally available when using a DVI connection.
Although I feel kind of sheepish for not figuring this out before posting this message, I am now even more upset with Dell's tech support because ANYONE who actually KNEW how to use this monitor could have answered my question out in about two seconds, but instead, I spent 1 hour chatting and 1.5 hours on the phone with tech support people who had apparently never operated or even seen a dell lcd monitor. One tech rep even suggested that the problem was my video card, and that i should go complain to ATI.
So now I have solved the resolution issue, but am still concerned with the high-ptiched buzzing noise my monitor makes when it is in standby mode.
