2005FPW 2405FPW brightness control

does anybody actually own a 2005FPW that can change the brightness significantly using the on-screen-display brigness control (not from the Display control panel)?

Dell sent me two replacement 2005FPW's but all three (two replacements and the original) have the exact same problem where it can change the brightness only slightly (it's almost unnoticeable, aka useless).

could someone who actually has access to a 2405FPW try the brightness control on the monitor to see if it actually changes the brightness significantly? if it does, i will probably return my 2005FPW and order a 2405FPW.

I'm not sure what significant means to you. I have a 2405 and the brightness was set at 50 from the factory. This was too bright so i set it at 30. Yes I can see a big difference.

thanks delta7000! if you can tell the difference, that IS significant. on my 2005FPW, it's almost impossible to notice the difference between 0 and 100.

by the way, my 2005FPW is REV A01 Mexico May 2005. it only dims the brightness probably about 1% (i.e. i don't have an illuminance meter or anything but it's unnoticeable or at least almost impossible to notice) when the brightness control is set to zero (the brightness control should say 100.0 to 99.0 instead of 100 to 0).

My brightness setting (2005FPW) is at its lowest and yet the image is brighter than what I would normally set it to but I can live with what I have.

thanks M3Sid! now i know there is at least one more 2005FPW that doesn't change the brightness as much as you would really want.

You can lower the brightness in your videocard settings. However, if you have the means, I highly recommend switching to the 2405FPW.

thanks drew-and-not-u!

yes, i know the video card brighness (gamma) can be changed in the Display control panel but it's terribly inconvenient to go deep deep deep inside the settings panel and it's not really the same thing as the brightness control on the monitor.

i will definetly switch to 2405FPW. thanks again!
