2005FPW and DVI
Just received my lcd today...the problem that I do have and hope is a easy fix is I can't get the lcd to work with my radeon 9500 using the DVI cable...the vga cable works fine...but would like to take advantage of the DVI...I tried everything..from installing the latest drivers...testing it on another computer with a radeon 8500 (no go)..and toggling through the input modes...when its set to DVI...the screen is dark and the safe mode msg pops up..nothing works...is it the monitor or my video card??...I had a Samsung 152t using the DVI and it worked great...and to note when I installed the LCD I kept the old DVI cable that was already attached to the computer...I notice the DVI cable that came with the 2005fpw is thicker than the one I had, I did try both DVI cables...but still no signal.
Anyone using this monitor with a radeon 9500??
Thanks!

I have an ATI 9500 and it does indeed use DVI-I not DVI-D (http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9500/radeon9500pro/specs.html) so therefore you can't use the DVI on the 2005FPW it seems. Kinda bummed about that one. Was all excited to hook it up via DVI and now I can't. That and I got about 4-5 dead pixels. :(
lime if you indeed have an ATI 9500 how did you get DVI to work? It's not possible since the 2005FPW uses DVI-D and the 9500 uses DVI-I. Either you don't have an 9500 and you think you do or you aren't telling us the truth.

this is from ati's website
"DVI-D based monitors
A DVI-D monitor accepts only digital input signals. As such this type of connector can only be used with a graphics card which provides digital output. This connector does not support direct connections from Analog-only (VGA) graphics adapters.
A monitor using a DVI-D connector can be directly connected to a graphics card which provides a DVI-D or DVI-I output. Additionally, a DVI-D monitor may be connected to a graphics card providing a DFP or ADC output when used with a third party adapter."

The other problem is that I can't seem to get the DVI to work. I have Nvidia GeForceFx 5200 which "features DVI-I(GV-N52128DE only,) TV-out and D-Sub connectors" so I assume it has everything to support 2005fpw. When hooked up to DVI it displays picture but at 1024 x768 max resolution. When I try to set it to 1680x1050 (which it allows me to do) the screen just goes black for 15 seconds and then reverts back to the old resolution. Downloaded the latest driver from dell and nvidia but nothing works. The max resolution works only in VGA mode.
Calling tech support proved a huge waste of time (cordless phone died on me while waiting). After getting out of the phone system the first person took all my info and supposedly transferred me to someone who can help but instead transferred me back where I started. This is my first purchase ever from Dell and so far nothing but trouble with product and especially service.
If anyone knows of the problem I describes can you help please? Also how long do they allow you to return stuff? Does 2001fp have same problems? I like the looks of the display and if I knew that they would send the replacement that would work for sure it would be nice. Maybe switch to 2001fp? any suggestions?
