Nothing on the screen shouldn't actually stop the options from working. Safe Mode would be accessed by pressing F8 and your BIOS access key depends on your motherboard.

Have you tried repeatedly pressing F8 during bootup to get into Safe Mode?

I have the same problem with my 2405 on Radeon 8500 ... no bios messages using either analog or dvi ... plus on XPpro a DOS window will not display using DVI but it will using analog.

I have the same problem with an ATI 8500; if I want to see the boot sequence, I have to hook up a VGA cable instead of the DVI. Very annoying.

The common theme here seems to be the ATI 8500 video card. :smileyindifferent:

I've got the 2405FPW running DVI on a Nvidia 7800GTX and it lights right up and shows me all of the boot sequence, even if the computer has been off and the monitor sleeping for awhile. I still fail to see how this has anything to do with whether or not you can press the appropriate key during bootup to get into the BIOS, that to me just seems... odd.

I'm trying to remember my older machine with the 2001FP on it, I vaguely recall issues where it wouldn't wake up fast enough to see the machine through all of the bootup sequence. I believe you can try turning the monitor off and then back on right before you boot, so the power light is green instead of amber during it and see if that helps.

If not, it may be something 'special' with the 8500 unfortunately. Have you tried upgrading to the latest Catalyst drivers to see if that helps?

chulet thanks for that info ... so far, I had not seen any confirmation that anybody had ever been able to see bios boot msgs with the 2405 ... yes I tried powering up the monitor right before boot ... it still seems odd that on this same pc I saw all bootup msgs with a previous Samsung 170mp via analog but can't see them on the 2405 ... I see there are new cats out so will try them
