2005FPW Resolution Question

The product description for this monitor says that "to optimize this monitor's performance, your system must be able to support WSXGA + resolution (1680 x 1050)."

I have an Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics card on my Sony Vaio.  Would anyone know how I would be able to find out if my graphics card is able to run this resolution?  Or would I be able to run 1680 x 1050 with the monitor driver that Dell supplies.

This seems like a great monitor that I want to buy.  Please help out.  Much appreciated.

One way to check if your video card can support the 1680x1050 resolution is go to 'Display' (by either via Control Panel, or by right click anywhere on the desktop and then 'Properties'), then select 'Settings' tab.  In 'Screen Area' box slide the bar to maximum (or "more") and see what resolution shows below the bar.  If it's less than 1680x1050 then your video card can't support anything higher than its max resolution.  I think this's the simplest way to check it.  Good luck.

thanks for the reply!

yeah, i've done that.  and i've also gone to the advanced properties of my second monitor (which is inactive since I don't have the dual dispaly set up yet on my laptop).  once there, i went to the "adapter" tab and clicked on "list all modes." the highest resolution that i found was 1600x1200, which is a 4:3 ratio (i.e., not widescreen).  i didn't see the 1680x1050, but was hoping that the driver of the monitor would somehow allow that.

if that's still a possibility, please let me know.  if not, then oh well.
