2005fpw stinks. any suggestions?

Would someone please suggest an alternative to the 2005FPW monitor?
I think the image quality is superb, but I HATE the font size and the web page size/layout on this monitor.
I have chronic headaches and eyestrain using this monitor for internet use.
I've used it for 5 months, expecting to "get use to it", to adapt.
I've tried every "tweak" there is to make web surfing as pleasant as it once was with my old IntelliColor Display/20e.
Nothing works.
Fonts are too small.
Web pages are too small.
I don't need more "real estate".
I need to be able to see what's on the screen.

I hate it.

I am using an XPS 400 with NVIDIA GeForce 6800.
I need a SQUARE monitor that displays web content as it is intended to be viewed.
Tell me the best quality monitor that I can buy, and I'll buy it.

p.s. My 2005FPW is for sale. It is in PERFECT condition. Purchased Jan. 2006. Want it?

Lower the resolution a little bit or change the font size on internet explorer. It is under the view menu and is called text size.

As long as you have a VGA to DVI converter.

Thanks for your suggestion.

But, believe me...I've tried everything.

Lowering the resolution reduces the quality of the image and distorts perfect circles to ovals.

And changing the font size in I.E. or Firefox simply does not work.

Going to tools, internet options, accesibility, ignore font sizes, works on a few web pages, but jumbles the text on most.

thanks again, but I really need a different monitor.

I have a ViewSonic PT775 that's never been out of the box since I purchased it over 6 years ago.

Will this work with my XPS 400?

I've also come across the problem, however I had it on a 14" LCD with a 1400x1050 resolution.

The 2005FPW has about 96 dpi, which is standard. You'd get approximately the same size text if you used a 1280x1024 17" LCD. I suggest you use a 19" LCD that has a native resolution of 1280x1024 (e.g. Dell 1907FP). This way, the display has a higher pixel pitch, making the text larger.

Of course, another solution would be to use a CRT display rather than an LCD display. This way, you could set it to any resolution you want without sacrificing quality.

Maybe try a 21" 1680x1050 monitor like the samsung 215TW? Any larger 4:3 or 5:4 monitor (there are no square monitor btw) will have a res of at least 1600x1200 which is higher than what you have now. Have you thought about just investing in a pair of glasses instead of a whole new monitor?

I think there's a rumor for a Dell 27" that will run at 1920x1200, that may work for you. The DPI will be lower so everything will be bigger at the same resolution.

I had the same issues, I just increased the size of everything else. Right click on your desktop and get to work, the settings all interact with each other and it's a pain but you can do it. Also, blame windows not the monitor. Windows XP is old now, while hardware continues to advance. If you have trouble seeing the screen why wouldn't you want a bigger screen? So then, who is the culprit not scaling? It's windows. But also dell is useless, they could have made a better driver.

I changed the dpi from 96 to 120 (125%)
right click on an empty area of your desktop
choose properties

there are too many settings for me to write but you can love your monitor. Turn your monitor brightness down to about 12.

I turned all windows from white background to a pale yellow, the monitor is too brite I agree.
Right click - properties, appearance, advanced, scroll down to window and change the color from snow blinding white to grey or pale blue

(themes desktop screen saver APPEARANCE settings)

If DPI doesn't help, make sure you cleartype on and download cleartype tuner as well. Together these two should make text much more visible.

If that doesn't work well enough sell it.

You can actually get a bigger screen for cheaper. Newegg is selling several 20" screens that are 1400x1050 (4:3), so the pixels are much bigger.

Viewsonic 2021 is one such example.
