2007FPW - Powersave mode for 10 seconds then solid colors cycle

Hello,

I just bought the 2007FPW LCD monitor and am having a issue that I haven't been able to figure out (google'd it and nothing).

I have the display settings set to power off the monitor after 20 minutes of inactivity. When this occurs, the monitor goes into power save mode (the green light turns orange). Then after about 10 seconds, the light turns green and it starting cycling through solid colors (all blue, red, white, black, etc). It will do this continually. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I have verified that hibernation is off and that the proper video and display drivers are installed.

The monitor is connected via DVI.

Thanks!

I bet that the changing colors is part of the "anti-burn-in" feature of the monitor. Its supposed to be turned off by default, but you can check it accesing to the service menu of the monitor: turn off the panel, push "menu" and "+" buttons and then power up. Release the buttons and push "-".
You will see the feature near the end of the list.

A normal user isn't supposed to know the service menu, is it considered as a defect when the burn in mode is not turned off?

alg7_munif,

They are checking the monitors as they roll through. It is not a defect. Just turn it off.

Just to give an advice. I use the monitor quite intensivelly, and today detected that my taskbar started to become tinted on dark backgrounds. To fix it I switched it to autohide and later left the monitor turned off for a couple of hours. The effect is gone, but take in mind that on just a day of work you can have a burn in effect on your screen!

I meant, when a normal user, who didn't read this forum, didn't know about the burn in mode and didn't even know that the service menu exist, got a monitor with this problem. When he called Dell for helped, will the person tell him to turn off the burn in mode or arrange a replacement because a normal user isn't supposed to know the service menu.

Somnio,
what you're referring to with the taskbar sounds like image, or pixel persistence, (which is different to what is referred to as burn in on a CRT), and different to Burnin mode in the service menu. Just in case there's any confusion :).

@gpro: Thanks for the reply and: Yes! I know, but the "burn in" option in the menu is meant to deal to this kind of problem too (well, I think!), and I didn't want to confuse using other terms ;)

Yes, it was a slighty pixel persistence: the black lines and text of the taskbar where visible on a blue background. The effect whipped out after a couple of hours switched off. Now I have an autohide taskbar to minimize this problem, but I get surprised to see it too soon. The monitor is almost new, enters on APM mode at 10 minutes and I didn't use it more than 5 or 6 hours straight.

Seems that I understand why many units came to this option switched on now.

Arrggghhh..  I thought after much googling and hand-wringing that I had finally solved that persistent color flashing problem with my 2007FP.  As directed I accessed the service menu and turned the burn-in feature off. Bingo, no more flashing.  But wait!  Two days later, all on its own, it STARTS AGAIN!!!    This is a recently purchased Refurbed unit, and it's driving me nuts.
