2007WFP Problems

Hi, I am new to the forum and would like to get your thoughts on the following.  I received a 2007WFP monitor with an XPS 410 eight days ago.  I like the monitor in general but can't live with the following issues.  The first is that the text in Word which I use a lot looks gray instead of black.  If you look closely at the black text, there is a reddish hue around vertical portion of the letter such as T.  It is also observed with blue text making it look purplish.  This phenomena also makes the text look less sharp.  The second is that colors in general looks washed out compared to my old crt monitor, an LCD Viewsonic VG910b that I use at work and the LCD on my IBM Thinkpad.  I have tried to adjust the settings to no avail. A replacement monitor is on the way.  On Dell-Chris' recommendation, I performed the CheckeMON color spectrum test on the old monitor, the new 2007WFP and the IBM Thinkpad and only the 2007WFP exhibited color stepping banding.  Is the banding an explanation for the previously mentioned problems?

I had this buried in another thread but because some of the issues mentioned maybe outside of the scope of that thread i decided to post separately.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Not sure about some of those issues, but it sounds like you may have gotten the S-PVA panel that Dell has been switching in the 2007WFP. It's a lower quality, cheaper panel than the S-ISP that the 2007WFP is *supposed* to come with. I'm sure they'll replace it with another monitor, but make sure you request the S-ISP panel, even though from what I'm hearing, they can't guarantee it at this point (or even know what it'll come with).

ChrisM will probably have a more concise reply, though.

You have cleartype turned on?

its in Display properties under Appearance tab then effects button.

having that turned on clears up alot of text problems on LCD screens.

I will keep my fingers crossed that the replacement will address the issue.  I am waiting for Chris' response to see if he can shed some light on the issue causes.

Thanks for responding.

savjam,

All I can is replace it. But what I cannot do is know which panel will go out. Please provide me with the following information in a private message, not on the board -

Reason: 2007WFP

Thanks for your fast response Chris.  I have a replacement coming.  Does banding explain the symptoms I reported?

savjam,

No. I would not attribute banding to your issues.
