22 inch Crystal

I have a 22 inch Crystal monitor.  the picture is fantastic, like the monitor everything works except for the speakers.  I have talked to tech support and they were very helpful, it seemed we needed to use the HDMI port on the Video card for this monitor to be able to make use of the speakers on the monitor.  Purchased the new Video card and connected to the HDMI port everything except the speakers is still working.  the computer the monitor is connected to is the Dimension 5100, with 2GB of ram, P4 3.4GHZ, 160GB HD, runiing Windows XP Pro,  need help in figuring what is not allowing  the speakers to work.the Video card is the ATI 2600xt 512mb, all of the software and cables that came with the monitor are connected to the PC except for the optional subwoofer connection, all the drivers for the video card are current, windows has all the updated available to date.  thank you in advance for your help

Does the card have an HDMI port or are you using an adapter?

You must use ATI's adapter to get sound through the DVI connector.

You may also need to select or configure the Audio device in Windows or the ATI driver.

The  card has the HDMI port. I have the cable from the monitor going directly to the HDMI port no adapter.

I will try the configuring the device thru windows or ATI.

Configured the audio in Windows finally found the right combination.  legacy codes was the trick but now the headphones wont work, have the integrated but not the USB. the video is now running off of the adapter for the DVI-d socket.  will now work on getting the USB headphones to work, did not know that hooking up a monitor could be so much fun!!

What makes it more complicated than usual is that using HDMI requires audio to be routed through the graphics card. The ATI card has its own audio processor which means that you may have to juggle between two audio devices in Windows (the ATI and existing onboard audio). Sometimes just installing the ATI card will disable the onboard audio and you will have to enable it in the BIOS.

You may also need to install additional drivers:

Radeon™ HD 2000 series - Missing Device or Error in Device Manager for ATI HDMI Audio:

After installing the drivers for the Radeon™ HD 2900 series graphics card, users may notice a (!) error in the Device Manager with an unknown device or an error with an ATI HDMI Audio device.

Got the headphones to work and now i have the best of both worlds.  Used the legacy drivers for the integrated and the and diabled all the Codecs stuff.  Reinstalled the original Graphics card, used the adapter that came with the monitor for the DVI-D connection.  So thank you for all your help gpro
