You may want to try something simple like rerouting your DVI cable. That could be 'noise' or RFI type inteference from other power cords or devices that it runs near. If that seems to help, you can also consider replacing the inexpensive cable that ships with the monitor to a better shielded one. Belkin makes some nice high-quality DVI cables with excellent shielding you can find on the net or a your local CompUsa, for example.
The first thing I did when I purchased my 2405FPW was to place an order for a high-end DVI cable. I purchased a Belkin PureAV™ DVI Dual Link Video Cable AV51400-08. This cable is a Dual-Link DVI cable which is what Dell should have included with the 2405FPW since it has a resolution of 1920x1200. If you put the Belkin cable next to the Dell Single-Link cable, you will immediately realize why you were having all those problems. Just my 2 cents...
I have recently purchased a 2405 FPW, and i'm having a problem with screen artifacts (read: flickering loss of colour depth, and other texelation artifacts), and a blue single pixel width line running down the center of the screen. Only the right side of the screen is affected.
The odd thing is, I've used both the DVI and VGA cable connections, and get the same result. I'm not sure if it's:
A) a monitor problem (everything else about the monitor is fabulous except for one dead pixel near the bottom -- not really noticeable).
B) A video card hardware problem (i've been using my Radeon 9800pro 128 for ages on a 1024x768 LCD without ever having a problem.
C) A driver issue (installing the screen drivers for this monitor was like pulling teeth given how easy it SHOULD be to find/install them).
D) A cabling issue as mentioned above (I do have a USB wireless mouse and keyboard, and wireless LAN).
I have yet to try a set of driver from www.omegadrivers.com, but I am using the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI.
Thanks,
~Simon.
My System: 2.6 Ghz 800FSB Pentium IV 1 GB Ram ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128 ASUS motherboard (i'll have to check the model)
PS: It almost seems as though the video is being given to the monitor via two separate right and left channels, and the right channel is messed up. It's possible that I would never have seen this problem on the video card before because the "left channel" fully supported the 1024x768 LCD I used before.
Well, it turns out that it's absolutely the monitor that isn't processing the image correctly. I called Dell about it, and I'm very impressed at the excellent customer service I got. They are shipping me a new one, just like that.
